E3 live stream, Project Natal for the Xbox 360, and The Beatles: Rock Band

It's baaaack!

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, more popularly known as E3, has always been the marquee event of the computer and video games industry. After two years of a downsized, invitation-only version, E3 has been resurrected, with gamers all over the world rejoicing, and Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony making major announcements in their respective press conferences.

I'd love to go to E3--I've never been able to cover it during my days as a gaming journalist--but those of us who can't be physically present at this much-awaited gaming event can still follow the action via live streaming.

Microsoft kicked off E3 2009 with its press conference, and you can watch the replay of Microsoft's press conference as well as the upcoming live stream of the Nintendo and Sony media briefings, over at GameSpot. That link is for the press conferences, but for the live stream of each day of the expo itself, which starts in less than 23 hours as of this writing, go to http://e3.gamespot.com/live.html. You can also check out GameSpot's E3 live photo stream.

The most significant announcement from the Microsoft press conference has to be Project Natal, which brings motion-sensing technology to the Xbox 360. Yeah, I know, I can hear all you Nintendo Wii owners snickering. Microsoft has also made Xbox 360 gaming a more social experience by integrating Facebook and Twitter.

Here are two clips showing off Project Natal, courtesy of Gametrailers.com which is powering the video coverage at the official E3 site.

At its press conference, Microsoft also showed a demo of the game you and I have been waiting for, Harmonix's The Beatles: Rock Band, which is coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii on September 9. Here's GameSpot's first impressions.

The new game also brought together the two surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, who were joined on stage by Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison as they promoted The Beatles: Rock Band.

Here's the debut trailer.

Of course, the Sony PSP Go has been leaked even before the official E3 announcement, but let's see what other features will be unveiled and what other goodies Sony has in store. Not to mention what Nintendo will be showing off during its press conference.

Ah, yes, it's great to be a gamer!

Project Natal is looks amazing. If this turns out to good I'll end up selling my Wii for it.

@ShiningStar yeah, i'm also hoping Project Natal delivers as promised. i'm wary of the hype, and it's still 15 months away, but if Microsoft pulls it off, it's going to be an amazing experience.

let's also hope they won't charge an arm and a leg for it :)

babelmachine says...
cool, jen, are you a big Beatles fan? :) who's your favorite Beatle?

jen says...
I'm not really a big big Beatles fan so I dont have a fav Beatle, but I really like their songs :) So, with a game filled with their awesome songs and being able to play along with them must be fun! :D

yup, their songs are awesome!

i'm a john lennon fan, heh :)

@Babel: The price I've heard rumored is roughly US$100 per camera. I'm skeptical about voice reconignisation. A lot of voice software have very hard dealing with speech, don't know if they could improve that.

I'm also interest in the new PS3 controller, which is similar to Wii+.

babelmachine says...
@ShiningStar speech recognition software has improved a lot over the years, but yeah, based on current games that support voice commands, we'll have to train ourselves to talk in the way that the software understands. which can be a real drag.
