Babelmachine is back, and the Filipino blogosphere keeps growing

It's been over a year, but I'm finally back blogging for CNET Asia. A lot has happened since I left, not least of all a major career move when I decided to "go corporate" after over a decade as a tech journalist.

I'm now the multimedia head a.k.a. The Catalyst of Level Up! Inc., the PLDT Group's online gaming company, which is the Philippine publisher of titles such as Ragnarok, Perfect World, RF Online, FlyFF, Freestyle, Crazy Kart, and, most recently, Grand Chase.

I'm excited to once again do my share in giving you a glimpse into the Philippine tech scene and exposing Filipino digital content to a wider audience across Asia. I intend to focus more on the Philippine blogosphere, social networks, tech startups, and grassroot information and communications technology projects rather than industry news, to cast the spotlight on developments that the mainstream media may not have the time or resources to cover.

Speaking of the Philippine blogosphere, the country's best bloggers were honored this Sunday, on September 21, during the 2008 Philippine Blog Awards.

I wasn't able to go--Sunday is family day for me--but I want to congratulate all the winners and the organizers. The Philippine Blog Awards is already becoming an institution, and the awards were even aired via live streaming.

Blogging has really taken off in the Philippines, with bloggers now regularly rubbing shoulders with the mainstream media at press conferences; endorsing products and services; and launching their own ad networks.

As I said in a previous blog post, I believe Filipinos are taking over the blogosphere, and I'm convinced of that more than ever.

I'm still going to buy a copy so I can't give you a review yet, but do check out Janette Toral's latest book, Blogging from Home.

Congratulations, Janette!
