Bandai's infinite jelly-squeezing toy

I'm not a fan of tokoroten, a Japanese snack that's really reconstituted sea algae that can be eaten cold or with a vinegar-based dressing. But as with all things Japanese, Bandai has subverted this dish of thin translucent jelly strips into yet another mugen (infinite) toy, joining the wacky list of PuchiPuchi bubblewrap and Mugen Edamame bean popping.

Though this has far less universal appeal than, say, the Mugen Kan Beeru can popper or Peri Peri enveloper zipper, the Mugen Tokoroten (630 yen, US$7.20) lets you squeeze out the agar agar snack--which has strange smiley faces at the jelly ends--over and over and over. You get the drift. Whether this relieves stress or brings out the OCD in you, that's another thing altogether. Coming out in Japan this December 3.

Bandai also has a special-edition Mugen Tokoroten featuring personalities from Nippon Television's Sukkiri variety show. (Credit: Bandai Asovision)
