If you own a home theater system, there's a high tendency that your A/V receiver is using various audio-processing technologies from Audyssey. This can range from the firm's MultEQ sound equalization to its DSX function which upconverts 5.1-channel movie soundtracks to more immersive 11.1 surround sound. The audio specialist has recently ventured into the iPod speaker market with the South of Market Audio Dock or SoMA. And for the first time in Asia, the SoMA is now available in Singapore for S$635 (US$510.20). This will be followed by a Malaysia launch in August.

The hardware is further optimized by a slew of Audyssey's proprietary software enhancements, such as BassXT and Dynamic EQ, to boost performance. Audyssey is so confident of this product that it is offering an audio dock challenge in the US for users to pit their speaker docks against the SoMA.

Sound quality aside, the SoMA also comes with Bluetooth to support wireless music streaming and will double as a speakerphone featuring dual microphones as well as a stereo computer speaker. More savvy users can even download a free iOS app and customize the sound signature of the device to their liking. Those in Singapore can either swing by Tangs' Technobay or visit Sound Decisions at The Adelphi for an onsite audition.
