4K is a relatively new video standard offering four times the resolution of regular full-HD TV. This format is now mainly used in cinemas, though Toshiba and LG are launching 4K TVs for home use this year.
Aside from the greater amount of detail delivered by 4K displays, this format also enables TV manufacturers to offer improved 3D TVs. These include 1080p-quality passive 3D TVs and glasses-free 3D panels that render up to 720p visuals.
However, note that there's currently no readily available 4K content in the market and all TVs brands are using a 4K-upscaling function to display regular TV shows, DVDs and Blu-ray movie discs.
