Android paid apps coming to Hong Kong and Singapore

Analytics company Distimo is reporting that Google has added 13 countries to its list of markets that can buy paid applications from the Android Market. Two countries in Asia are soon to be included--Hong Kong and Singapore. The other countries are Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Finland, Israel, Mexico, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia and South Africa.

According to a related report by TechCrunch, Google sent out an email to developers last week saying that the company will "be adding paid apps support for additional countries". This is to make sure that these applications creators can take action to publish their software in these newly added markets. Google has nothing official to say at the moment, furnishing us with the following statement:

"We're working hard to bring support for paid apps to new countries around the world but have nothing more to announce right now."
By far, the lack of paid apps in Asia is the biggest criticism we have of the Google Android smartphone platform. If this move turns out to be true, it would be a great first step toward putting the mobile operating system on par with the experience that users in the US and parts of Europe currently enjoy. As of now, we still cannot see any paid apps on our test Android phone. We will report again once we hear anything new.
